Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team is likely building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
